Introduction to Olive Pomace Processing Equipment

In recent years, as the global olive oil industry continues to grow, the treatment and resource utilization of olive pomace have garnered increasing attention. As the primary by-product of olive oil extraction, wet olive pomace typically has a moisture content exceeding 60%; it is highly viscous and prone to spoilage. Improper disposal not only wastes resources but also places a strain on the environment. Against this backdrop, olive pomace drying technology has emerged as a critical link in completing the "last mile" of the olive processing value chain.

Olive pomace dryers are specialized drying systems designed to handle the unique characteristics of this material. Due to the high sugar content and viscosity of olive pomace, the material tends to stick to walls, clump, or even clog equipment during the drying process. Consequently, third-generation specialized dryers typically incorporate internal agitation and breaking mechanisms; by continuously turning the material and ensuring full contact with high-temperature hot air, these systems effectively prevent adhesion and clumping. These units generally feature a rotary drum design: wet pomace enters at the feed end, moves spirally through the inclined drum while being dried by hot air, and is discharged at the outlet end, capable of reducing moisture content from approximately 70% to below 13% in a single pass.

These systems can be customized based on olive variety, initial pomace moisture content, and processing scale, with capacities ranging from 0.5 to 10 tons per hour. Heat sources include natural gas, biomass, or coal-fired hot air furnaces, and the systems are equipped with multi-stage dust removal units to meet environmental standards. To address specific drying requirements, some models utilize a triple-pass drum structure; this design achieves the same output while occupying only about one-third of the footprint of traditional single-drum dryers, resulting in significantly higher thermal efficiency.

The adoption of olive pomace drying technology not only effectively resolves environmental pollution issues associated with pomace stockpiling but also extends the value chain of the olive processing industry, transforming waste into high-value products.
