Coal dryers are primarily used to dewater and dry high-moisture raw coal, coal slime, and pulverized coal. By reducing moisture content, the process facilitates storage, transport, and downstream processing. The system operates continuously based on the principle of hot-air heat exchange, comprising a complete workflow of feeding, drying, dust removal, and discharging.
Once the material enters the inclined rotary drying drum, the heating system generates high-temperature hot air—using sources such as coal, gas, or biomass—which flows through the drum's interior. The drum rotates continuously at low speed; internal lifting flights (lifters) repeatedly lift and scatter the coal, creating a suspended curtain of material. This maximizes contact between the coal and the hot air, rapidly removing internal free moisture through heat conduction and convection. Due to the drum's inclination, the material moves slowly toward the discharge end under gravity while being tumbled and dried, enabling continuous operation.
The drying process generates significant amounts of hot, humid exhaust gas containing coal dust. Instead of being vented directly, this gas enters a dust removal and purification system. Coal fines are first collected by a cyclone dust collector and then undergo fine filtration in a baghouse unit; the recovered fines can be recycled. The purified exhaust meets environmental standards before discharge, thereby minimizing raw material loss and controlling dust pollution.
The dried coal is conveyed to the discharge end and released via the unloading mechanism. The resulting product has significantly reduced moisture content and a loose, non-sticky texture; it is resistant to clumping and spontaneous combustion, making storage and long-distance transport much safer. By adjusting the drying temperature and equipment rotation speed based on the initial moisture content of the raw coal, we can precisely control the moisture levels of the finished product to meet the specific requirements of various sectors, such as power plants, coal preparation plants, and the coal chemical industry.
